It's not the sweetest nursery rhyme you'll ever hear but sometimes with Miss Charlie it seems to fit! Here are a couple pictures of her curls, mama tried a little gel to get them to hold better but there's no gel out there to get the child herself to hold better....seems to fit the rhyme!
We spent lots and lots of quality time with family and friends, ate our weight in Christmas cookies, and did Advent Acts of Kindness all month long to remind us of the reason for the season. Our celebration was topped off in the most awesome way on Christmas morning when Santa left 2 small bundles for Eli and Henry. We are happy to introduce our two new brothers, Shadow and Scratch :) Aren't they about the cutest little furry ones you've seen?
The boys have been having a blast with them ever since. They are playful and huggable, just the right mix of snuggling and activity for a 4 and 6 year old. Santa was kind enough to bring them already litter trained and they settled right in. We can't imagine our house without them now!

The Welch boys got a gingerbread decorating kit in their shoes from St. Nick last week. They had fun decorating, they had more fun eating the candy, and they had the most fun trying the (gross) cookie! We'll pretend that we did it first thing in the morning and that's why HK is in his pajamas... I don't know what to pretend to make Eli's shirtless-ness okay, believe whatever charitable story you'd like that puts my parenting in a positive light!

Look at this trio of little ladies! My sister and my best friend and I were all blessed with daughters within months of each other. My Charlie came first in November, quickly followed by miss Isla in January and finally little Piper in June. Even with a span of 5 months between the oldest and the youngest, these gals will all be in the same class in school! This will finish out the third set of kids that my sister and I have managed to deliver close enough together to be in the same grade. Awesome planning? Crazy serendipity? Whatever it was, we'll take it. How lucky are we all to get to watch these three gorgeous girls grow up together?!

We had a wonderful week in Disney World with the whole Piper family the week before Halloween. That being said, the evening of costumes and trick-or-treating was complicated by an early morning wake up call (4am) to catch a plane home, freezing temperatures with howling winds, and above all a baby girl who was DONE! Enjoy the pictures, not many were taken because of the aforementioned complications! :)
The biggest and best change is the birth of our third child, our first daughter, our first sister, and our most favorite youngest child. Introducing Charlotte Marie Welch, or Charlie as she has come to be known over the last few months! She was 6 weeks old in this photo.
We had a couple of cute dinosaurs in our house for Halloween this year! It was a busy day that started with a birthday breakfast in bed for Daddy and ended with a full hour of trick-or-treating in the neighborhood. In between was filled with classroom parties full of crafts, snacks, and games! Mommy was one worn out pregnant lady by the end, but the boys had a blast!

Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07307078433727930290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1555858213843626707.post-10480620872640164422013-10-20T08:23:00.005-07:002013-10-20T08:23:42.742-07:00Ready for Chilly Weather!

He had been through 2.5 lessons watching from the sidelines, unwilling to join in the fun. His father and I chalk it up to his current view on life which is "I will do the opposite of what anyone wants me to do unless it involves eating candy". This has been a tough stage for him..... and us. We are so proud that he finally let himself take the plunge and have fun with the other kiddos!
We recently spent the weekend with my parents at their house. We did lots of fun things like visit a horse farm, going to a movie and getting popcorn, and hitting the pumpkin patch. The boys loved it all! But none of those things compare to spending time with Grandma and Papa. My Eli loves his Grandma so much that he cries when we have to leave her house- and he's not one to cry usually! I love this picture because it really shows why our Grandma is so wonderful!Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07307078433727930290noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1555858213843626707.post-33559927356903066932013-10-08T16:07:00.003-07:002013-10-08T16:07:53.457-07:00Pumpkin Patch Fun!

My husband can attest to the fact that I spend WAY too much time on Pinterest, to which I would say at least I'm doing some of the things I pin. And anyone who pins things on Pinterest would applaud that! Two of my recent projects were to make my own laundry soap and to re-do a free play table that I got from a friend of my sister's. I tackled the laundry soap first- the hardest part was finding all the ingredients, the funnest parts were crafting my container and mixing all the awesome-smelling soap in a garbage bag! Here is the finished product!

I love it sooooo much! I think it works 100% better than the super cheap soap I was buying. They tell me it will last a year but I'm doubtful. Even if it makes it 6 months that will be a lovely cost savings and how nice not to be running out of detergent once every 2 weeks!

My next project was to re-do a play table we've had for at least a year or two. It came to us covered in marbled contact paper which the boys and I pulled off one day about 3 months ago because I just couldn't stand the ugliness anymore. It was plain white underneath- not awful but not play room fun! I decided to spray it with chalkboard pain and add some of my own fun (but removable) vinyl stickers. It took me a total of 2 days to get it all finished. It awaits someone with muscle to help me put it back in my basement from my garage- I try not to do too much heavy lifting :) Here it is all done!

Eli loves tic-tac-toe so I thought on the chalkboard surface that would be a fun thing to play! I'm always surprised when my projects turn out how I picture them- probably because of my usual high failure rate. So with these two under my belt I'm off to newer, better projects! I'm going to tackle some closet dividers for the baby out of old CDs, maybe some painted curtains for my living room, and if I'm feeling really ambitious I'll make homemade soap to put in some cute molds my sister found! The possibilities are absolutely endless- or will be till I bring home another busy little body!

Henry and Daniel were both very excited for their first day at preschool! Hopefully Henry is just as excited tomorrow when he has to go it alone and be "mommy free" for an hour :)

Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07307078433727930290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1555858213843626707.post-35841594602873496362013-09-01T10:49:00.000-07:002013-09-01T10:50:07.809-07:00iPhone ExpirementationSo the last two posts were handily using photos from my iPhone. So convenient! Why has it take me so long to realize I can blog with pictures off my phone? Probably from lack of computer savvy :) I really need my brother Tim and my sister Cammie to live with me and help me navigate this world of iPhones. So I've now decided to try to upload a short video that I took earlier in the summer of Eli learning to skateboard.....

I'll trial post this and see if it works! If not I'll try, try again :)Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07307078433727930290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1555858213843626707.post-20723033501849626912013-09-01T10:39:00.001-07:002013-09-01T10:39:23.875-07:00The Big BrothersHere are two pictures of my soon to be big brothers! They are both very excited for the baby, although Henry has less of an idea of what to expect than Eli. Eli is certain we are having a girl, as is his cousin Eva. Henry says boy more than girl but has picked a name for each. He's chosen Snaps for a boy and Apple for a girl.... Mommy hasn't signed off on those, although Snaps Welch has a nice ring to it!
A friend (Sarah Murphy) once said that you can tell if someone is expecting a new baby because they stop blogging :) Now, that has not always been true in my case, it's usually just good, old-fashioned laziness on my part. But not this time! So here is the first picture (of many I hope) that I'll post of our newest Wee Welch addition!
We don't know what kind of baby we'll be getting this time. Dylan opted for the surprise option! We'll find out come December! Here is Mr. Henry on Eli's birthday playing in his room. It must have been a lazy day because this was an 'Eli' photo and he also took a lot of me in my pj's talking on my phone (didn't feel those needed to be included!)

My heart is all warm and fuzzy because looking back over these pictures makes me feel like my boys haven't changed THAT much and for that I am grateful! They are both at ages that if I could I'd keep them at because they are so much fun and together have a great time playing!

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I"ve started a new job as of July. While some might not think of it as a true "job" that is really what I'd been equating it to. It has all the earmarks of a real job, even more so than my nursing job had, such as 7-5pm hours 5 days a week. This is a new schedule for me and I entered into this with a little trepidation about a number of things, schedule included. I also wondered about the impact this would have on my family and how our budget would feel about me only working occasionally as a nurse.

After about a month on the job, with a little time-off for vacation, I can say that the verdict is in and the truth is, I just love it! I have lots of time to marvel at how well things are going and what the things are that are really selling me on this new career path I'm on since these two baby boys I get to hang out with are such good babies. These are just a few things that have made me already love my new week:

1. Spending 5 days a week at home has done wonders for our budget. I probably didn't realize how much all the trips through the drive-thru, walks through Target or the mall, and extra grocery store trips added up in terms of money out. Now we stay home for 90% of meals and there are no impromptu trips anywhere which means that as I make money I'm also saving quite a bit!

2. Spending 5 days a week at home has also done wonders for my housekeeping! As I'm home all day, I keep up on dishes, laundry, toy pick-up, and vacuuming. Sounds dreamy, right? When I worked at the hospital, it was just tougher to get the motivation to do all that on days after I worked. Who feels like unloading the dishwasher when you've been up for the last 44 or 48 hours? Not me! But the babies don't begrudge me a few household chores while they're sleeping!

3. Having babies in the house has brought out lots of independence in my own 2 boys. Eli is just the biggest helper and is almost always willing to fetch things or do silly dances to keep one baby happy while the other is being tended to. And Henry is just growing up before my eyes. He demonstrates moments of sharing that I know his brother hadn't grasped at that age! This doesn't mean that Henry doesn't struggle occasionally when his mommy is busy with another little one, but he's so genuinely excited to see the babies in the mornings when he gets up, I know that he'd be having some 'struggles' without any extra kiddos around- that's just a 2-year-old.

4. The best thing I have discovered since staying home with my kids like this is that I am spending so much more quality time with them! As the babies are young, we do a lot of sitting on the floor and playing, or swinging or quilt-play in the yard. Because this is my "job" I don't have any guilt about just playing instead of doing something like reorganizing closets or tackling my massive picture printing project. This means I'm not only playing with the babies, I'm also playing so much more with my own boys and I think we're all loving it!

Come September, I am adding one final full-time baby and I know he will fit right in to our crew of boys just perfectly! Now those of you with kids realize that the days are not all sharing and sugar and light! There are definite moments of craziness and tears (although not mine.....yet!) But these have been few and far between. At the end of the day, I really feel like all 4 of the boys under my roof have great days with lots of fun, lots of hugs, and in return I get lots of slobbery kisses and gummy grins!! What's not to love in that?

And in any case, I missed my June window so I technically can't even call this my annual update....but let's not dwell on all that!

The wee welch boys had an eventful year in some respects but not too eventful in others. To begin, my oldest son Eli had his first broken bone. He fell and broke his femur in February. The accompanying hospital stay, body cast, police investigation, and medical bills have all faded away in the warmth of summer like a bad dream but his limp remains evidence of the traumatic event! He will follow-up in December with the MD and his bum leg will hopefully have grown enough for some length equality.

My little Henry remains peanut-ish. He was less than 10% in both weight and height for his age at his appointment this month! Prior to his older brother's medical issues in February we had been fairly concerned about his complete lack of teeth at 18 months old. However, a body cast supersedes a gummy grin any day, and with our attention focused elsewhere he has since sprouted 8 teeth with 4 more on their way! Apparently the old adage "A watched pot never boils" applies to so much in life.

At 4-1/2 and 2 years old these boys rarely sit, constantly talk, and occasionally test their parents' patience but all in a good-natured way! We just returned from our favorite vacation in the North woods and being able to spend a solid 2 weeks of pure playing with the kids was a treat for both me and their dad!

As we move into August, we are embarking on a new endeavor as a family and this is really why I think I must start blogging again. In an effort to be home with the boys more I've taken in some little ones and you really can't watch 4-6 kids a day (including my own mind you) and not have some perfect bloggable moments! Day one was yesterday, an 8-month-old and a 10-month-old joined us for the first time together. Not much to report aside from 2 things:

1. I'm apparently woefully out of practice with baby feeding as I sent both children home looking as if I had just flung their baby food at them in hopes of hitting their mouths instead of carefully sitting them down with bibs on in a highchair and slowly spoon-feeding them which is what I actually did. Sorry for upping the stain-spray usage!

2. You should never, ever gloat about having all the children sleeping at the same time. This brings karma down on you hardcore and even if your house is completely silent and even if said children have been laid down in the perfect napping condition (fed, dry, snuggled), one of them will wake up to teach you this valuable lesson. I should know because I just learned it yesterday!

So look for more to come on both my 2 boys and their fall adventures as well as any more babysitting tales! With any luck, or maybe just better planning, I can continue to blog at least twice this year. (I'm big into setting realistic goals for myself....) And if I'm really good, I might even post a picture or 2 instead of relying on my awesome sister for putting photo proof of my kids' existence on her own blog :)Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07307078433727930290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1555858213843626707.post-17186396885160348412011-06-07T05:50:00.000-07:002011-06-07T06:15:57.208-07:00IndependenceFirst off- I must say a big thank you to Eyris Photography for the wonderful job they did on our family pictures! They were awesome to work with and the pictures turned out better than I could have imagined- who knew we were that cute?! If you live in the C-U area and need photos done then please check them out at eyrisphoto.com, I highly recommend them!

I just wanted to put a few words on 'paper' about my boys' individual struggles for independence. Each in their own way, they are moving to new stages and leaving mommy behind a little more!

Eli is the epitome of an independent 3-yr-old. The list of things he does by himself is growing longer and is usually only limited by his size! He gets dressed by himself, he gets undressed by himself, he gets in and out of the car by himself, he wants to make his own PB sandwiches, he can play Wii, he can start his own movies on his DVD player, he'll fetch his own mimis, he'll even help mommy do his laundry!

Things I don't want to forget about this time in his life include wearing his underwear backwards so he can see the picture of Batman on his frontside....his demands for "privacy" in the bathroom about 75% of the time.... he repeats everything his mommy says with perfect timing.... and that kid can bargain like the best car salesman you've ever met!

Henry is moving from the sedentary baby stage with all of it's delicious thigh and wrist rolls to the moving baby stage. He is desperately trying to figure out how to crawl and will pull up to his knees on anything available. He continues to be a smiley, contented baby- a true testament to his mommy's argument for more kids! We recently rescinded his paci use, much to his dismay! In true Henry-style, he doesn't really cry in a heartbreaking way. It's more of an angry, growling babble. His grandma thinks he might be using some choice words that his mommy just can't understand!

Things I don't want to forget about this time of my little HK's life include his super juicy and still gummy smile (no teeth yet!).... his happy babbling that usually consists of a lot of Dadadada.... his occasional angry outbursts where he kicks his chubby little feet in anger.... and his utterly kissable cheeks!

Finally, I have to say that I have had to stop no less than 5 times in the writing of this short post to tend to one small child (changing, feeding, passing the remote/cellphone for entertainment) and that's with just one awake so far this morning.... it really reinforces why I haven't blogged in so long! Yeesh!
Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07307078433727930290noreply@blogger.com0
